Welcome to Day 63 of The Glory Team Bible Reading plan and we are continuing the book of Joshua. In Chapters 18-21, marks the continued distribution of the Promised Land among the tribes of Israel. In these chapters, the remaining tribes receive their allotted portions, including the special designation of cities of refuge and Levitical cities. The process reflects God’s justice, order, and provision, ensuring that every tribe has its rightful inheritance. These chapters highlight the fulfillment of God's promises to Israel, showcasing His faithfulness in granting rest to His people. The emphasis on the cities of refuge and Levitical towns underscores God’s care for justice, protection, and spiritual leadership among His people.
In Joshua Chapter 18, Joshua gathers the remaining seven tribes at Shiloh, urging them to take possession of their inheritance. He sends out surveyors to map the land, demonstrating a structured and organized approach. The tribe of Benjamin receives its portion, situated between Judah and Joseph. This chapter highlights the importance of obedience and diligence in claiming God’s promises.
In Joshua Chapter 19, the remaining six tribes receive their inheritance by lot, with Simeon’s portion being taken from Judah’s territory. The chapter concludes with Joshua himself receiving the city of Timnath-Serah as his inheritance. This chapter reinforces God’s sovereignty in dividing the land and the fulfillment of His promises to every tribe.
In Joshua Chapter 20, God commands Joshua to establish six cities of refuge where those who commit unintentional manslaughter can find asylum. These cities ensure justice and mercy, preventing revenge killings. The chapter emphasizes God’s provision for protection and His desire for fairness in the legal system.
In Joshua Chapter 21, the Levites are given 48 cities among the tribes of Israel, ensuring that spiritual leadership is distributed throughout the nation. The chapter concludes with a powerful statement: God has fulfilled every promise He made to Israel. This passage underscores God’s faithfulness in providing for both physical and spiritual needs.
