Day 26: From Idolatry to Grace - Seeking God's Presence in Times of Failure

Welcome to Day 26 of The Glory Team Bible Reading plan and the book of Exodus. In Chapters 34-36, narrates the renewal of God's covenant with the Israelites, where Moses ascends Mount Sinai to receive a new set of stone tablets with the Ten Commandments after breaking the first set due to the people's idol worship; God reveals His character as merciful, gracious, and slow to anger, emphasizing His faithfulness to the covenant while also warning against idolatry; following this, chapters 35 and 36 detail the Israelites' enthusiastic response to God's instructions, as they gather offerings and begin the meticulous construction of the Tabernacle, a portable sanctuary where God's presence would dwell among them, with skilled craftsmen following precise designs given by Moses.

Exodus 34: details the renewal of the covenant between God and the Israelites following their sin with the golden calf, where Moses is instructed to carve new stone tablets and ascend Mount Sinai to receive a reiteration of God's law, emphasizing His character as merciful, gracious, and slow to anger; this chapter prominently showcases God's forgiveness and commitment to restoring His people despite their transgression, with specific instructions regarding religious practices and treatment of foreigners included within the covenant stipulations. 

Exodus 35: Moses instructing the Israelites to bring voluntary offerings of materials like gold, silver, bronze, and textiles to construct the tabernacle, God's dwelling place amongst them, following God's detailed instructions on Mount Sinai; emphasizing the importance of observing the Sabbath while contributing, Moses also announces that Bezalel and Oholiab have been specially chosen by God to lead the construction with their exceptional skills in craftsmanship, highlighting the people's enthusiastic response to contribute to this sacred project. 

Exodus 36: Details the meticulous construction of the tabernacle, the portable sanctuary for the Israelites, as the people diligently follow the precise instructions given to Moses by God on Mount Sinai; with skilled craftsmen like Bezalel and Oholiab leading the work, the chapter focuses on the intricate details of the tabernacle's framework, including the curtains, coverings, and supporting structures, highlighting the Israelites' dedication to building a sacred space according to God's exact specifications, with such an abundance of materials being brought by the people that Moses had to ask them to stop donating as they had more than enough to complete the project.
