Day 356 - in Truth, Guarding the Faith, and Living Ready for His Return

Updated: Jan 5

Welcome to Day 356 of The Glory Team Bible Reading Plan.

These chapters serve as a final pastoral warning and encouragement, calling believers to mature in their faith while remaining anchored in God’s revealed truth. Spiritual growth is presented as both a gift of God’s grace and a deliberate pursuit, rooted in the knowledge of Jesus Christ. The letter confronts the danger of false teachers who distort the gospel and exploit others, reminding believers that God’s judgment is certain and just. Confidence in Scripture is emphasized, affirming its divine origin and reliability over human interpretation. The reality of Christ’s return frames how believers are to live, shaping their holiness, endurance, and hope. Together, these chapters urge believers to remain vigilant, grounded in truth, and spiritually prepared for the fulfillment of God’s promises.

2 Peter 1

The first chapter opens by affirming that God has granted believers everything needed for life and godliness through the knowledge of Jesus Christ. Believers are called to actively cultivate spiritual qualities such as faith, virtue, knowledge, self-control, perseverance, godliness, brotherly affection, and love, which confirm their calling and election. Growth in these virtues prevents spiritual stagnation and blindness, while neglect leads to forgetfulness of God’s saving work. The author emphasizes the certainty of the apostolic witness by recalling the transfiguration, where Christ’s glory was visibly revealed. Scripture is presented as fully trustworthy, described as a light shining in a dark place until Christ’s return. The chapter concludes by affirming that prophecy originates not from human will but from the Holy Spirit’s work through God’s chosen messengers.

2 Peter 2

This chapter delivers a strong warning against false teachers who secretly introduce destructive teachings and deny the authority of Christ. Their deception leads many astray and brings reproach upon the truth of the gospel. The chapter affirms that God’s judgment on false teachers is inevitable, drawing on examples such as fallen angels, the flood in Noah’s day, and the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah. These examples demonstrate both God’s justice toward the wicked and His ability to rescue the righteous. False teachers are exposed as driven by greed, arrogance, and sensual desires rather than by God’s Spirit. The chapter concludes by showing that those who turn away from the truth after knowing it face a more severe judgment than those who never believed.

2 Peter 3

The final chapter addresses skepticism about the Lord’s return, confronting those who mock the promise of Christ’s coming. Believers are reminded that God’s timing is not bound by human perception, as the Lord is patient, desiring repentance rather than destruction. The certainty of the coming day of the Lord is emphasized, when the present world will be judged and transformed. This future reality calls believers to live holy and godly lives as they await the fulfillment of God’s promises. The chapter points to the promise of a new heaven and new earth where righteousness dwells. It concludes with a warning to remain spiritually alert and a call to grow in the grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ.
