Welcome to Day 353 of The Glory Team Bible Reading Plan.
These concluding chapters confront the inner attitudes and outward behaviors that hinder spiritual maturity, calling believers to wholehearted submission to God. Pride, worldliness, and self-reliance are exposed as enemies of grace, while humility and repentance are shown to open the door to God’s restoring power. The teaching shifts from internal conflict to external conduct, addressing arrogance in planning, oppression, and misuse of wealth. Believers are reminded that life is brief and fully dependent on God’s will, requiring a posture of trust rather than control. The closing exhortations encourage patience in suffering, integrity in speech, and faith-filled prayer within the community of believers. Together, these chapters urge Christians to live with reverence, endurance, and hope in God’s righteous judgment and faithful care.
James 4
This chapter begins by identifying selfish desires as the root cause of conflicts and quarrels among believers, revealing how unchecked passions lead to spiritual division. Friendship with the world is described as hostility toward God, emphasizing that divided loyalty results in spiritual unfaithfulness. God is shown to oppose the proud but give grace to the humble, calling believers to submit fully to Him and resist the devil. Repentance is portrayed as an inward transformation marked by grief over sin and a sincere turning back to God. The chapter also warns against speaking judgmentally about others, reminding readers that God alone is the Lawgiver and Judge. It concludes with a rebuke of arrogant planning, teaching that all plans should be made in humble dependence on God’s will.
James 5
The final chapter opens with a strong warning to the wealthy who exploit others, exposing the temporary nature of riches and the certainty of God’s judgment. Withheld wages and unjust living are depicted as cries that have reached the ears of the Lord, highlighting God’s concern for justice. Believers who suffer are encouraged to be patient and steadfast, using the prophets and Job as examples of endurance under trial. The nearness of the Lord’s coming is presented as motivation to remain faithful and avoid grumbling against one another. Integrity is emphasized through a call to truthful speech without manipulation or oaths. The chapter closes by stressing the power of prayer, the healing that comes through confession, and the responsibility of restoring those who wander from the truth.
