Day 173 - Justice, Kingship, and Praise: A Journey Through Battle and Glory

Welcome to Day 173 of The Glory Team Bible Reading plan and we are in the book of Psalms. Psalms 109 through 111 guide readers through intense emotional terrain—ranging from a desperate plea for justice, to a majestic declaration of God’s royal authority, to a heartfelt celebration of His faithful works. Psalm 109 is a bold imprecatory prayer where David cries out against malicious enemies and entrusts vengeance to God. Psalm 110 stands as a messianic prophecy, foretelling a divine King and Priest whose rule and reign will crush evil and usher in everlasting authority. Psalm 111 then shifts the tone to joyful worship, reflecting on God’s mighty deeds, wisdom, and enduring covenant love. Together, these psalms highlight God’s justice, supremacy, and worthiness of praise.

Psalm 109 is a passionate cry for justice from David as he suffers betrayal and slander by wicked people. Instead of taking matters into his own hands, David turns to God with raw emotion, calling for divine intervention against those who falsely accuse and repay evil for good. This psalm contains strong imprecatory language—asking God to bring judgment upon his enemies—but it ultimately reflects a deep trust in God’s righteousness. David acknowledges his own vulnerability, describing himself as poor and wounded, yet he finds hope in God’s steadfast love. The psalm ends with David praising God, believing that He will vindicate him before others. Psalm 110 is a royal and messianic psalm that proclaims the authority of the coming King who will reign forever by God’s decree. It opens with the well-known declaration, “The LORD says to my Lord: ‘Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies your footstool,’” a verse quoted multiple times in the New Testament as referring to Jesus Christ. This King is also described as a priest forever in the order of Melchizedek, emphasizing a role that blends both spiritual intercession and sovereign rule. The psalm speaks of a future day of power, where God’s chosen one will judge nations and execute divine justice. Psalm 110 highlights the unmatched authority and eternal reign of the Messiah. It portrays God’s plan to bring perfect justice through a divine ruler unlike any earthly king.

Psalm 111 is a beautiful hymn of praise that celebrates the works and character of the LORD. The psalmist begins with a wholehearted declaration of worship, inviting others to join in reflecting on God’s greatness. Throughout the psalm, God is described as gracious, compassionate, faithful, and just—His works are remembered, His covenant is upheld, and His precepts are trustworthy. The psalm connects reverence for God (“the fear of the LORD”) with wisdom, positioning worship as the proper response to who God is and what He has done. God’s provision, redemption, and eternal righteousness are declared with joy and awe. This psalm reminds believers to anchor their lives in the wonder of God’s deeds and the enduring truth of His Word.
